Lead Instructor
Meet Dev Saighal, the lead instructor and co-founder of Reef Oceanic Adventures. Dev is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer / Instructor with extensive experience teaching in the waters of India, Thailand, and The Maldives. His passion for scuba diving has led him on a journey of exploration, discovery, and adventure.
He is particularly fascinated by the underwater macro world and is known for his ability to spot tiny critters even when massive sharks are swimming by. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as lead instructor, providing students with personalized attention and expert guidance.
Dev's passion for scuba diving has also led him to some incredible experiences, including hosting the former first family and his entourage during his time in the Andamans. Originally pursuing a degree in Chartered Accountancy, he followed his heart and made the transition to become a full-time merman.

Dev and his conservation efforts
He has collaborated with the NBA India - Nets for Change initiative, working alongside fishermen in Mumbai to gather and remove ghost nets, abandoned fishing gear that poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems. This hands-on effort reflects his commitment to tackling one of the most pressing challenges (removal of plastic waste and ghost nets from the ocean) in ocean conservation by directly engaging with local communities and addressing the problem at its source.
Dev has actively contributed to marine conservation initiatives in Mumbai, including being part of the research phase for the artificial reef structures designed to support local fishermen in Worli, an effort by RPG foundation and Kuddle Life foundation. These innovative reef systems, developed to enhance fish populations and improve livelihoods, reflect his commitment to blending science, sustainability, and community welfare. In addition to these conservation projects, Dev founded Shark Mate, a rash guard company that produces high-quality gear made from recycled plastic bottles collected from the ocean. Through this venture, he combines innovation with sustainability, transforming marine waste into functional apparel while raising awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans.
